Acute Care Collective Agreements The following Collective Agreements reached between the Nova Scotia Health Authority, the IWK, and Nova Scotia Council of Nursing Unions (NSCNU) are in effect from November 1, 2014 – October 31, 2020. Upon expiration of these agreements, the process of negotiating new contracts will begin for the acute care sector. IWK - NSCNU Collective Agreement The NSNU represents Community Care nurses who work for Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), Canadian Blood Services and home support practices. Long-term care is a vital part of Nova Scotia's health care system, and it is in dire need of reform. Recently, the Nova Scotia Nurses’ Union completed a report on the current state and future of long-term care in our province from the view of our front-line nurses. The agreement provides wage increases over a six-year term (2014-2020), including retroactive pay, protects key benefits and provides a mediation-arbitration process that will conclude all collective agreements for the four bargaining units in nursing, health care, support services, and administrative professionals by the end of 2018.
The Council of Health Care Unions is made up of CUPE, NSGEU, NSNU and Unifor. The Council was legislated to negotiate 16 collective agreements down to one each for the IWK and NSHA. This award established a six-year term of agreement. Approximately two years remain in the term. Experience with long term care. Long term care management: 3 years (Required).
